HbA1c(Hemoglobin A1c) Detection KIT

What is glycated hemoglobin?
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) means hemoglobin to which glucose is bound. Hemoglobin is present in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen. Glycated hemoglobin increases in proportion to the high level of blood sugar and the duration of exposure of red blood cells to glucose, and does not drop once combined.
Since a dog's red blood cells last about 90 days, it can be seen that the glycated hemoglobin test shows the average blood sugar control status over the last 3 months.
What are the advantages of glycated hemoglobin test?
The glycated hemoglobin test has the advantage of being able to diagnose/monitor diabetes through a single test. Humans already use the glycated hemoglobin test as one of the diagnostic criteria for diabetes.
How is the glycated hemoglobin test different from the fructosamine test?
In dogs, glycated hemoglobin lasts about 90 days and the plasma protein that produces fructosamine is about 2-3 weeks. Therefore, the glycated hemoglobin test is more useful to know the long-term average blood sugar control status.

Fasting blood sugar test

Oral glucose load
One of the tests is done.
In addition, the glycated hemoglobin test can be tested with blood like a blood glucose test, but fructosamine is tested with serum. Therefore, if there is hyperlipidemia, bleeding, or hypoalbumin, the test result is not accurate.

Q. Can pancreatitis affect the test?
Pancreatitis in dogs may be accompanied by transient hyperglycemia. In the case of hyperglycemia caused by inflammation, the improvement in pancreatitis improves hyperglycemia.
To differentiate this, a glycated hemoglobin test can be used. Also, the glycated hemoglobin test can be tested with blood like a blood glucose test, but fructosamine is tested with serum. Therefore, if you have hyperlipidemia, bleeding, or hypoalbuminemia, the test results are not accurate.
Q. What is the glycated hemoglobin test cycle?
We recommend testing once every 3 months (4 times a year).
However, if reexamination is necessary due to the influence of a specific disease or drug, the timing and frequency of the examination can be adjusted according to the judgment of the veterinarian.
Q. If I perform a glycated hemoglobin test, can I not draw a blood sugar curve?

Although the glycated hemoglobin test represents the average blood sugar level for 2 to 3 months, to find the right insulin dose for the patient, you need to draw a blood sugar curve.
